MOBILE ONE ANTENNA'A - THE SCANDUCKY

Hello and welcome back..... Looking for a replacement antenna for your scanner can be a task in itself, but I think I found the answer, so I thought I would do a test to see how good it really is. Granted, there are more expensive Antenna's out there but what got my attention is value for money and its Australian made (Remember them?).
This antenna does not claim to be more effective than the stock antenna your scanner came with but I was more than impressed with certain results with the Mobile One Scanducky.

RESULTS

SCANNER = Alinco DJ-X3
LOCATION = Springwood NSW
ANTENNA = 1 x Uniden Bearcat Stock Antenna
                       1 x Mobile One Scanducky

VHF = 78.4375mhz

Stock antenna gets 1 bar signal.
Scanducky gets 2 Bars signal.

AIRBAND = 126.300mhz (Richmond ATIS)

Stock antenna gets 2 bars signal
Scanducky gets 4.5 bars signal (excellent result)

UHF = 468.850mhz (Police)

Stock antenna gets 1.5 bars signal
Scanducky gets 2.5 bars signal

FM RADIO = 107.700mhz (2GO Gosford)

Stock antenna gets 4 bars signal
Scanducky gets 5 bars signal (full)

RESULTS

On VHF, UHF & FM Radio Scanducky was slightly better than the standard antenna giving 1-2 bars more gain.
Aviation Enthusiasts rejoice as this antenna was excellent, signal was strong and clear.....This is one Antenna to add to your scanning kit.
This antenna is slightly larger than the stock antenna at 350mm (14") and is only $40 to buy.
Best of all your money stays in Australia not overseas.

AVIATION MAPPER - LIVE AVIATION MAP

Hello and welcome back.... Aviation Mapper is a website that adds realism to your Aviation listening. This website is done in realtime so while you listen on your scanner you can also watch all the action on your computer.
 Its great to click on a aircraft and see Speed, Altitude and even a cockpit view, Yes, you can see what the pilot can see.

This site also has Acars so you can see messages on your screen as they happen. (right pic) and a tracker to see how many times an aircraft has tried to land. My brother and I watch a Qantas plane circle 10 times after a storm before coming in to land (passengers would have been dizzy)
You can also turn off these items by un-ticking the boxes on the top left hand side
Auto Balloons = Acars
Trails = tracking

To make this site work you will need the Google Earth Plugin = CLICK HERE (download this first)

CLICK HERE to go to Aviation Mapper and click on "Get Crackin"

If you find that your computer is running slowly, un-click Trails as this uses more CPU.

Tune into Airport frequencies and watch this site come alive..... Enjoy

TOWER IDs - RF MAP

Hello and welcome back... Have you ever driven past a tower and wondered what all the antenna's are for ?....I HAVE.

Have you ever wondered what what frequencies come from that tower?....I HAVE

Wonder no more.

My brother put me onto this website as he is also into Radio Communications.
This website uses Google maps and plots antennas and the Frequencies that run from the antenna... Lots of hidden antenna's that you didn't even know existed.
I looked in my local area and I noticed an antenna on-top of the local library, by clicking on the red circle I can see that it supports council frequencies and also aircraft frequencies that I never knew existed.... Interesting.

 The website is at = RF MAPPER
You will be greeted by a pop up asking for what towers you want eg = Mobile coverage / Amateur radio operators or Everything else. Make sure you take the tick off "Show relevant tiles" otherwise it just looks confusing.
Choose "Everything else" and click the blue X on the top right side of the popup and wait a few seconds depending on your internet speed. Then find an area and away you go.

To get rid of the blue lines click the eye pic on the bottom left where it says "Point-to-point"

To make it easier to see  the map click the "Eye" icon on Nasa SRTM and also "Black"to turn off layering

And that's it, The red icons are the one's with the most info...Have fun

Massive thank you to spench.net for the use of photos from his website.
