2018 LAS VEGAS HELICOPTER EXPO FLY OUT

Hello and welcome back... This Sounds Wicked

This is the full fly out of the 2018 HAI Heli-Expo giving you an amazing look at various Helicopters used in the U.S and the different sounds that each one makes.

I sometimes surprise my kids when i point out the different types of helicopters that fly over by the sounds they make, i'm not bad, can usually tell the difference between a Kawasaki BK117 (usually Careflight) and a Augusta Westland (Rescue 207 / 209)

Be sure to put video in 720p HD and a good set of Headphones / Speakers

2018 LAS VEGAS HELI-EXPO FLY OUT

Thanks to 'Sebastien' for the video

Hey Guys.. Please Consider donating a few dollars to this site, just click on the 'SHOUT Me a Coffee Fund' top right corner of this site... Takes just 30sec.. Love and Peace.

AIRBAND LISTENING IN THE BLUE MOUNTAINS - KINGS TABLELAND

Hello and welcome back... I thought i would share this with you..

If you are a Aviation Lover and live in the Blue Mountains (or surrounds), you would have noticed, listening to Airband Radio sometimes is a bit hit and miss.

Mostly because the distance between the airport and where you were trying to listen is too great, unless you have a really big outside antenna.

But, fear not, because half way up the mountains, south of Wentworth Falls is a place called 'Kings Tableland' that relay several aircraft frequencies as they fly over the mountains.

Kings Tableland Aviation Towers seen from Tablelands Rd

Put these frequencies into your radio.

FREQUENCIES

118.400 (Departures)
123.400 (Brisbane Centre)
124.550 (Radar)
128.600
133.500 (Melbourne Centre)
135.100 (Inbound Clearance)
363.800

The Radio Link from Kings Tableland then heads to Mt Edith (near Jenolan Caves, NSW)

118.500 (Melbourne Centre)
119.700
125.000
129.800

Give these frequencies a go, I know from experience, 123.400 (Brisbane Centre) and 133.500 (Melbourne Centre) work well where i live (Springwood)

Its funny because the airplanes that fly behind (south) of my house boom in on Melbourne Centre and the airplanes that fly over out the front (north), i can hear on Brisbane Centre.

If you want to visit the site (Kings Tableland), turn left after going up Bodington Hill on the Great Western Highway, this will take you on Tablelands road, follow this road for a while and on your right hand side you will find a Airservices Notice and a Service road that will take you the transmitting towers.

Observe and wonder but don't trespass.

Cheers

#KingsTableland

HELITACK 271 CRASHES IN KOSCIUSZKO NATIONAL PARK

Hello and welcome back... Sad news with the crash of the red and white RFS Bell Huey Helicopter
(VH-HUE) known as Helitack 271 which crashed in the Kosciuszko Nation Park.

The UH-1H helicopter that came down was operated by O'Driscoll Aviation.

Thankfully the pilot was O.K.

The helicopter was doing removal tasks at the time of the crash, but only a few days ago, was fighting fires at Holsworthy in NSW

Not much left of Helitack 271

THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Hello and welcome back.... So, after 4 months, i finally got my internet back to normal (for now)

Just after Christmas, we had a large thunder storm and just as i reached to turn off the modem , a large bolt of lightning struck just over the other side of the hill.

This instantly shunted the internet off and when it finally reboots, my internet is now crap. Slow speeds and constant dropouts, i'm talking around 25 dropouts a day.

At first i thought the modem had crapped itself it, so i replaced the modem, still the same problem so that ruled out the modem.

And so i turned to my trusty internet provider... Telstra

The thing that started to get on my nerves is that everytime you ring Telstra, you end up talking to someone new who goes through the motions of detecting the fact that yes, your internet is rubbish. (about an hour each time)

Then you get a technician to come out and straight away, they are in your house and testing various things. Some are really good and seem to know what they are talking about, others are arrogant and at times plain rude.

All up, i ended up with 7 technicians rocking up to my premises. One guy, after checking various ports in the house, wiring, changing modems, worked out that the problem lied further up the road.

Another came into my house, said that the problem was a filter i had on the phone, then proceeded to basically call me a liar when i pointed out that there was still a problem after changing it and it was still dropping.
He then press a button in his van as he drove off saying 'Problem solved" and charged me $145 for the call out which shows up on your next bill.
But the problem was not fixed, far from it.

Everytime the phone rang, the internet would also drop.

PROBLEM No1
The phone line and the internet line are 2 different divisions of Telstra.

The first mistake I was making was ringing a Telstra number and thinking one number can do everthing. I was ringing Telstra, telling them the problem over and over and they would send out a technician...for the phone line.. NOT THE INTERNET LINE.

But you see, the phone line and the internet line is the same right?

NO. its not

Finally after my 15th call to Telstra, a lovely lady from Malaysia worked out that the visits from the technicians were to check the phone line only, (normal call out is about 30mins at the premises). A Internet technician can take around 45 - 1 hour at the premises because more is involved.

I also found that Internet Technicians seem to know a bit more.

As it turns out the problem was up around the corner.

All along, i was saying to the people on the phone, "I Think The Problem Is In The Line Somewhere up The Road" but do they listen...No.

I was close to rewiring the whole house thinking something had gone wrong.

So, after 4 months, my internet is back to normal, but seriously, it should not take so long.

Why cant Telstra keep a list of what is happening at a premises. I eventually had to make a 'Formal Complaint" so that one person would handle the case and know what was happening (Case Manager)
but, I shouldn't have to.

I am still on ADSL and get the feeling that Telstra didn't seem to want to fix the problem because NBN will be rolled out in my area shortly.

Must say, Im not impressed, just the way you get treated. Im not stupid, i do know abit about how the Internet of things work and how to read a modem log which was displaying errors in the millions.

When the internet works ok, it works ok but when it runs into problems, you will need the patience of a saint to deal with the crap that you face from your service provider

End Of Rant

NSW RESCUE HELICOPTERS

Hello and welcome back..

Rescue Helicopters are the backbone of Emergency Services giving fast, reliable transport while offering the same service you would expect from an hospital emergency room.

From Search & Rescue missions, Car Accident Victims and even Lost & Injured Hikers. Rescue Helicopters are available 24hour, 7 days a week, on call, ready at a moments notice, often putting their own lives at risk.

NSW has currently 3 Rescue Helicopter teams, those being Careflight, Westpac Rescue and Toll Rescue (NSW Ambulance) who took over from CHC Helicopters & Snowy Hydro Southcare.

Most Rescue Helicopters today have multi-agency radios onboard including Police, Marine, Airband, Ambulance & Hospitals at a touch of a button.

Listening to Rescue Helicopters gives you an idea about what these amazing services have to deal with, they include things like adverse weather conditions, patients on the verge of death and even LED laser lights blinding them as they are about to land.

If you have a digital scanner receiver that can receive GRN (Government Radio Network) in NSW, this would be a excellent place to start.
You can often hear Helicopters talking to hospitals detailing what is going on, so that the hospital is ready and waiting for the incoming patent.

NSW GRN ID’s are 10301 (Main Helicopter rescue channel) & 10306 (NETS - Newborn Emergency Transport Service )

RESCUE HELICOPTER LANDING SITES

Hello and welcome back... Picture This

You can hear it in the distance, a thud sound getting closer.

You grab your camera and head outside.

A helicopter is headed your way. He's low, very low. As he passes overhead, you struggle to fire off shots from your camera as he is too fast. You start to swear and curse as the camera suddenly has focus problems. Then you notice that its landing lights are on... He's going to land, But where?

You jump in your car. You have your trusty camera by your side as you drive to the nearest oval... not there.

Photo opportunity lost.

If your an Aviation / Photography enthusiast (like me) then this is a similar situation.

Sometimes you can get lucky and hear on your scanner which park the helicopter will be landing.

Being there to watch this amazing machine land & take off provides a great photo opportunity.

One of my main photography experiments is to capture the helicopter stationary but with the blades blurred giving a image of speed and power (like the photo below) by setting the shutter to stay open a few seconds, you can create a extraordinary photo that really stands out and not the usual 'Frozen' look.

I must stress at this point... DON'T GET IN THE WAY..

If the Ambulance is already there, keep out of the way.

If the Ambulance is not there yet and the Air Crew are standing around waiting, this is sometimes a great time to introduce yourself and ask nicely if you could take a few photos, often, they are happy for you to so but BE QUICK.
The helicopter crew are not there for a meet and greet, someone critical is headed their way.

FIRE & RESCUE / SES ROLE IN ATTENDING CAR ACCIEDENTS

Hello and welcome back to 2018..

Found this interesting... Its a video from the BStreetsmart website which talks about Fire & Rescue and SES involvement in motor vehicle accidents.

I know here in the Blue Mountains, NSW Fire and Rescue attend nearly all car Accidents along with NSW Ambulance service (and Police of course)
Other places in NSW may have VRA (Volunteer Rescue Association), Police Rescue, Rural Fire and Ambulance Rescue.

Interviewer is Jamie Wincup.

FREQUENCIES
NSW FIRE & RESCUE BACK CH
Task 1     471.3500  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 2     471.5250  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 3     471.7000  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 4     471.7250  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 5     471.8500  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 6     425.2625  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 7     425.2875  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 8     425.3625  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 9     425.5000  (tone - 218.1Hz)
Task 10    425.5875 (tone - 218.1Hz)

Task 11    421.8750  (tone - 192.8)
Task 12    421.9875  (tone - 192.8)

Keep these frequencies in your scanner. In my area they use 471.850 for comms when accessing the jaws of life. I live near a highway and a nasty corner which sees its fair share of accidents. The bad accidents see's the above frequency come to life.
Also may be used where the face masks are utilized

PERSONAL NOTE
Its great to be back in 2018.
I want to try and focus on areas around NSW not yet covered and the frequencies in them.

I will also will be doing some behind the scenes housekeeping, so even know no new posts, i will still be doing bits to make this a great and informative site.

Sadly, Ive been having huge problems with my internet connection. Im still on ADSL (NBN has not come here yet) and have been copping dropouts to my service about every 5-10mins or if anyone picks up a phone. It is truly frustrating.
I am with Telstra and have an excellent tech who has been very patient and has virtually tried just about everything.
It started after a huge lighting bolt landed just in front of where i live, just on the other side of the highway.
Don't think anyone else has any problems as i seem to be the only one who has the Telstra van pull up outside
Nothing worse than writing a full post only for the internet to drop and i have to start all over again because it didn't save.
Fun Times Indeed.
