Hello and welcome back....Grab your woolly jumper and Shortwave radio, Antarctica here we come.
Temps in Antarctica once reached -49.4c, one wonders if radio frequencies might freeze and fall to the ground... But no, several shortwave frequencies beam out of this frozen hell hole (I say hell hole because i hate anything under 25c but some people might find -49c invigorating) in fact, even as i type this, current temp in Antarctica is -35c so if conditions are right, radio signals are headed straight into your Shortwave radio...
Try it, you never know.
ANTARCTIC FREQUENCIES (Australian Antarctic Division)
(bandwith = 3 kHz) (callsign = VIZ203)
392 kHz (Davis)
400 kHz (Mawson)
2.7215 MHz (Mawson/Davis/Casey)
3.0245 MHz (Casey/Wilkes Land)
3.1765 MHz (Mawson)
3.4195 MHz (Casey)
4.5415 MHz (Casey/Davis)
5.4015 MHz (Casey)
6.6115 MHz (Casey)
6.9064 MHz (Mawson)
6.9065 MHz (Casey)
7.924 MHz (Casey)
8.1115 MHz
8.9395 MHz (Casey)
11.4914 MHz (Mawson/Casey)
14.4165 MHz (Casey/Mawson)
15.8464 MHz (Casey)
15.8465 MHz (Casey)
17.4815 MHz (Casey)
If you get the chance to visit Antarctica, try these frequencies below
33.200 (Davis Station)
119.500 (Davis Station)
121.100 (Casey)
121.500 (Casey)
129.700 (Casey)
133.000 (Davis Skyway)
156.400 MHz
156.450 MHz (Davis)
156.850 Mhz (Mawson)
401.5 MHz (Bureau of Meteorology)
With the shortwave frequencies, it doesn't state whether upper or lower sideband is used, just lists as N
Stay Warm :)
