RAIL NSW - TRAIN NETWORK FREQUENCIES

Hello and Welcome Back.... Most intercity trains use a CDMA (Mobile Phone Network) type of network that, sadly, cannot be scanned.. But there are still some frequencies that can still be monitored..

Most rail yards use DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) for their communications, so you will need a scanner that can decode DMR..

4204 & 3642 LOCOMOTIVES ON THE WEEKEND

Hello and welcome back... Big weekend just past with the 150 years of Train Travel in the Blue Mountains.

I managed to grab my camera and get some photos of these amazing locomotives. To my surprise, the other end of the 3642 Steam was a 4204 Diesel (or what i call a Bull Nose Diesel). I used to catch this train from Cambelltown NSW to Central on the weekends (late 80s / early 90s).
The best thing about this train was that it only stopped at 2 stations (Liverpool & Strathfield) before arriving at Central.
It also used to fly through Macquarie Fields Railway Station in 2-3 seconds flat...

 Love this Beast - 4204

And this Beast 2 - 3642

I would like to dedicate the photo above to my best friend / mate - Damien Rowe who passed away from bowel cancer. He was 29.
Last time i photographed this train, Damien was beside me taking photos and discussing / comparing photo captures of this amazing train.
I felt that he was beside me in spirit this time.
RIP Damien.

I have a huge soft spot for these Diesels.
I used to live in Campbelltown NSW in the late 80s / early 90s, and used to catch this very engine for a 2 stop (Liverpool, Strathfield) trip to Central.
Having this huge engine up front is an experience in itself, the sheer raw power is amazing.
I remember we used to fly through Minto station in 3 seconds flat.
Having a father who worked on the railways, i once got to walk through the walkways between the 2 main engines inside this beast, my hair was literately standing on end
Love those days...

3801 TRAIN TOUR COMPANY EVICTED

Hello and welcome back... Sad news for Train lovers as the 3801 Vintage Tour Company were evicted from their Eveleigh warehouse.

The 3801 vintage train company runs mostly Diesel locos, similar to the train i used to catch from Campbelltown to Central back in the late 80s / early 90s.

These beautiful bullet nose (that's what i call them) diesels were a hoot to catch. The sheer raw power of these beasts were amazing, often going thru Minto / Ingleburn railway stations in 3 seconds flat.
I used to sit in the first carriage so i could hear the diesel, powering up after leaving the few stops it had.
(if i was rich, i would have one of these locos in my back yard :))

The 3801 tour company was locked out of the site (they even changed the padlocks) all thanks to latest NSW Government using 'safety standards' as the main reason.

Hope the 3801 can get back on their feet and find somewhere new to locate so these amazing engines can see the light of day again.

TRAIN DRIVERS VIEW

Hello and welcome back... Found this interesting.

My dad was a Train Driver, started out as a Fireman on Steam Trains (shoveling coal), then made it to driver for Diesels and eventually Electrics around the City Circle (and suburbs)

He is a nervous wreak..

He smokes a pack a day of cigarettes to try and keep his nerves at bay and has had a failed marriage.

His fatality count was around 8. (he doesn't talk about it) so its what i remember.

He is now retired, but is still scarred by experience.

Next time you travel by train, have a think about the person driving the train, who probably got up at 2am to start their shift, has to put up with near misses, rocks being thrown at the train, people spitting and yelling at them and the nightmares that continue long after their shift finishes..

That was never in the job description...

NSW RAIL - EMD TRAIN STRUGGLE

Hello and welcome back........ Not only am I a huge Aviation fan, I also am a huge Rail fan. In my younger days I used to catch a train home from Strathfield to Campbelltown NSW.
My choice was catch the electric train straight away or wait 30mins and catch a EMD? Diesel that would fly through stations at 3 seconds flat
I chose the Diesel, the best part was I often went into the second cab (engine) where the guard used to sit, but now the guard was required to sit with the driver thus leaving the second engine empty. Not sure if you were allowed (would not dare touch anything) but the sound was electrifying, something I will never forget.

This video is a similar train that I used to catch (EMD)- I used to nickname them a bullnose diesel because of the light in the middle.
Make sure you click 720p and change to fullscreen, the sound is incredable. Massive thanks to Rod Williams for the video.

TRACKWORK - Diesel T381 & G514

Hello and welcome back.... These trains were taking part in track-work near Valley Heights NSW. I have never seen these Diesels before so I thought it was interesting.

FREQUENCIES

State Traffic = 450.050mhz
Springwood Station = 418.475mhz
Trackwork = 477.025mhz

I found the trackwork frequency by using "Close Call" on my Uniden Scanner
